Grand Cricket Match – Sheffield Athenaeum v Conisbrough

Sheffield Athenaeum v. Conisbrough

This match came off on Monday last, when the Athenaeum Club proved victorious in one innings, Notwithstanding the way in which they were defeated, the Conisbrough men exhibited some fine play, and proved they were competent to maintain a vigorous position. The batting of Wilson, Thickett, and S. Harrison, was good-; and the bowling of Wilson and S Harrison very superior. Wilson, in fact, is a host of himself. On the Athenaeum side, Thornhill, Smilter and Fletcher distinuished themselves most with the bat. Watson and Ludlam, from the Broomhall Club, promised great things but were unfortunately run out. The bowling of Watson, Bussey, and Algor, was first-rate. The latter, with more practice and experience, will probably become a “nonpareil”. The match went of with good humour. The following is the score:-
