Savage Assault on a Woman

At the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Saturday, George Gill, a glassblower, living at Conisbrough, was fined three pounds including costs, for an assault on a woman named Martha Hartley.

The parties, it appeared, are neighbours, and last Sunday morning the complainant was in Gill’s house, when a quarrel aroseas toMrs Hartley’s daughter being in his house, and ending in Gill felling the woman to the ground, after which he kicked her very brutally over the face and head, one eye being very seriously injured.

In consequence of these injuries she had been under medical treatment, and appeared in court with her head bandaged up, and some fearful bruises on her face.
