Assaulting the Police

Michael Craney, Collier, of Denaby, was charged with having committed an assault upon police Constable Allanack, whilst in the execution of his duty at Denaby. The officer deposed that on Sunday last, he heard a disturbance at Denaby and the prisoner inviting anyone to fight him.

The policeman requested the prisoner to go home, when he struck the officer very violently and kicked him several times. So violent was he that assistance had to be obtained before he could be taken into custody, and he had to be removed to the police station in a cart.

A fine of 21 shillings, including the cost was imposed, or 21 days imprisonment.
