The Fatal Result of Bird Nesting

The inquest was held at the Police office, Denaby, before the deputy coroner, D Wightman, Esq., On the body of a boy, 10 years of age, named Willie Walker, who resided at pit row, Denaby, and was employed at the Conisbrough glass house.

It appeared from the evidence that deceased, and a companion were walking along the side of the River Don, at about six o’clock on the night of 27th of June, when they saw a birds nest on the bank of the river.

Deceased in attempting to get to it slipped and fell headfirst into the River, and, notwithstanding all the exertions of his companion, he was drowned.

His body was not recovered until three hours after the accident. A verdict in accordance with the above facts was returned.
