Accident at Denaby Main Colliery

This morning soon after six o’clock accident happened to a man named John Jones, employed at Denaby Main Colliery, and residing in Clay Lane, Mexborough.

It appears that was part of his work to disconnect the ropes from the loaded tubs as they come out of a district known as the East Plane, and whilst signalling to the engine man to stop, he by some means fell in front of the train whilst in motion.

With commendable presence of mind, however, he tried to recover himself, but failed to get his legs out of the way of the train, which passing over them inflicted several injuries, consisting principally of lacerations of the muscles of the leg.

The injuries are not of a very serious character, and early recovery is expected, the man being promptly removed to the infirmary.
