An Assault at the New Hotel

Wright Lee, miner, Conisborough, was charged with an assault on James Hagon at Conisborough on the 14th inst..

Complainant stated, that he went into the New Hotel, Denaby when the defendant struck him without any provocation whatever.

Defendant said the trouble arose from a shilling that the complainant owed him. On the date named he went and asked for eight, when the complainant shoved him away. He shoved him back. The complainant then hit him, and he (the defendant) hit back, complainant said he had some witnesses, but they were frightened of the “gang” to which the defendant belongs.

Harry Hoyle said the complainant it defendant first, and the defendant then hit him back.

The bench dismissed the case.
