Wath forward returns to Denaby

A familiar and very popular figure with a Denaby football crowd will be seen on the Denaby United ground this afternoon and a rousing welcome is sure to be given to “Josh” Burkinshaw, who has this week been transferred back to the United from Wath athletic.

Burkinshaw, one of the smartest inside forwards in Midland league football, and a prolific goalscorer, played for Denaby United last season, and scored 20 goals. Burkinshaw joined the Mexborough club when it was reformed four years ago. He played the next season with Gainsborough, last season with Denaby United, and this season, with Wath athletic.

He is a member of a well-known football family. hailing from Kilnhurst.

His uncle, Abe Burkinshaw, was an all Barnsley and Mexborough halfback, and for some years. Captain. The Mexborough team. His brothers Jack, Laurie and Ralph, are well-known in football circles.

Laurie played Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Birmingham and Jack for Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford City. Ralph is one of the smartest forward in single you football and players for Bury. He previously played for Wath athletic.
