Catching a Hare at Denaby

Sam Bailey, collier, Clay Lane, Masbrough, was charged with trespass in search of conies on land in the occupation Mr John Crannage, Denaby on June 7.

Mr Hickmott prosecuted on behalf of Earl Fitzwilliam.

About 7:30 p.m. the defendant and two other men were seen by two under keepers. They had three dogs with them, which were put into a barley field and a hare was killed.

The keepers caught Bailey in the road with a hare in his possession.

Evidence was given by Strictly and Stewart, the keepers, and the defendant was fined 40 shillings and costs.
