Conisborough 2 Mexborough 3

These  teams met Conisborough on Saturday the second round of the above Competition.

Conisborough kicked with the hill and the wind in their favour, having won the toss. After twenty minutes’ play Kelly was enabled score for Conisborough, owing to a misunderstanding between one of the Mexborough backs and the goal-keeper. Some exciting play then followed, the hall travelling quickly from goal to goaL Eventually the Mexborough forwards obtained possession, and by some grand cossing play carried the ball within shooting range; Law put the finishing touch, and half-time the score was even, one goal each.

On recommencing, Conisborough scored in about five minutes, and the excitement became keen. The Mexboroughites now began to wear their opponents down, and from this point had matters pretty much their own way. Lawton and Phillips scored two goals in succession, and then from a grand centre by Holbrook, Phillips had no difficulty putting on a fourth goal, which was, however, ruled off-side.
