Conisborough Graves to be Moved For Street Widening

Two graves in Conisbrough church graveyard, both over 100 years old will, in the near future, be opened and the remains removed to another part of the churchyard. An application made to the consistory court of the diocese of Sheffield for a faculty to widen Church Street by cutting off a corner of the graveyard has this week been granted.

The graves are those of Joseph Stacey (1831,) Hannah Stacey (1839), and a person named Claybourne (last interment 1888) and the remains found inside will be removed “to some other part of the churchyard.” The exact position is not yet decided.

A notice of the proposal has been posted outside the church and advertised in the local press for the past fortnight allowing relatives or heirs to object to the removal and re-interment of the remains to the registrar of the diocese. At the closing date no objections had been received.
