An Early ‘Double’

Conisbrough have recorded an early ‘double’ in the first division of the Doncaster League, dismissing Adwick-On-Dearne for 134 at Adwick on Saturday and scoring 140 for 5, but it was not a day of double success, for their second team, in Division Two, put Brecks back in the pavilion for 108 runs and failed to overhaul them by two!

The Adwick match was another keen and exciting game. After losing a wicket to the first ball of the match, another on the fourth ball and a third before scoring. Adwick built up a respectable score through hard hitting mainly by J. Longson (40), J. Weaver (36), B. Cooke (19) and F. Weaver (18). A. J. Chadwick hit the Honours Board for the second time this season with a fine return of 7 for 36 in 11 overs. W. Hepworth batted extremely well for Conisbrough (47) and K. King (18) and A. J. Chadwick (not out 20) helped the total along to 140 for 6, R. Bullock (6 for 32) bowled his spinners very effectively.

The Conisbrough-Brecks game featured good bowling by R. Hyde of Brecks (6 for 27), exceptionally tight fielding by the Brecks side, a good innings of 34 by M. Scott for Conisbrough – but poor fielding by Conisbrough, which yielded too many runs. Nonetheless, it was an exciting finish. Brecks made 103 and Conisbrough stood 94 for 7, then 94 for 8, 99 for 9 and 101 all out.
