Conisbrough Marine In Brisbane

Many of his old acquaintances will be pleased to hear news of Marine, David Hughes, 26 Ellershaw Lane, Conisbrough, is at present in Brisbane, Australia, on a jungle warfare course.

David, now 19, joined the Royal Marines at the age of 16 when he left Mexico grammar School, and spent 14 months at a Commando School at Deal, Kent. He trained as a radio operator at Portsmouth, and from there went to Indonesia, where he was involved in jungle fighting

David’s mother, Mrs Hilda Hughes told the “South Yorks Time”: “David wanted to join the forces since he was eight years old, and he seems to be doing all right.”

David returns home in February.
