Conisbrough Notes

Prisoner Home.

The first of the Conisbrough men who had been prisoners in Japanese hands reached home Sunday. He is Pte J. Fearnehough, of 11, Chambers Ave., Conanby. He was taken prisoner when Singapore fell.

Harvest Festival.

Harvest Thanksgiving services were held at the Baptist Chapel last week. The preacher was the Rev. A. C. Durrant, of Port Mahon Baptist Chapel, Sheffield. A children’s gift service was held in the afternoon.

At a public meeting on Monday, Mr. W. J. Edgington was the speaker. Fellowship and sisterhood meetings were held on Wednesday.

Collision in Fog.

Two service men motor-cyclists, L. A. C. Joseph Alistair and Cpl. Ernest Andrew Laycock both of the RAF., were he admitted to the Doncaster Royal infirmary on Tuesday with injuries sustained the same morning, when in the fog, the machines they were riding came into collision with a bus travelling along the main Sheffield Doncaster Road

Correction.

Last week is a part of Conisbrough councils discussion on the question of erecting the boxing ring in the Bath’s Hall inadvertently stated that Coun. T. Shephard, who supported the erection of the ring, said he understood from the surveyor that it would cost 30 shillings to erect and dismantle the ring and another 30 shillings to transport it – a cost of £6 week if the ring was used 3 nights. This observation was made by Coun. H. Gomersall. The mistake was caused by a typographical error.
