Wardle’s good all-round display

Denaby and Cadeby beat Sheffield Collegiate by six wickets at Denaby on Saturday.

Wardle gave a fine all-round display. After he had taken four wickets for 38, he followed with a faultless 47 not out, including six fours and a six.

Denaby’s position at the fall of the fourth wicket was none too good for with the departure of Howson (11) and Wright (29), left Ellis on leave from the RAF (18 not out), who was joined by Wardle. Between them they can the total to 131 without being defeated, Ellis been 34 not out.

Collegiate lost an early wicket. JC Barber (30) and M Barber (21) were parted at 64. Maddox (10) and Doncaster (20) batted steadily but the remainder failed and Waddle second spell with the ball brought about their downfall. For Denaby, Porter took two for 45 and Holland two for 20 and for Sheffield Maddocks had three for 52
