Denaby 199 for 7   Scarborough 118

Denaby took their third victory in the Yorkshire Council by defeating Scarborough on Saturday.

Scarborough received an unpleasant shock when faced with a Denaby total of 199 for 7 wickets declared, the declaration being made under the compulsory rule.

Weather conditions were none too good when Scarborough were batting. Rain began to fall steadily and towards the end of their innings the light began to fail.

Greenwood and Wright took the sting out of the Scarborough bowling. Greenwood had made 16 when he was caught by Maynard off Meads. Batty came in to get 14 before he stepped in front of a straight one from Meads. Wright was still holding the  fort when Criddle was caught by Meads off Bowker after adding a couple of runs. Richards then joined Wright to make a good stand before being separated. Wright was the one to depart. He returned the ball back to Adamson after being at the wicket for 105 minutes for a fine 75, which included 9 fours.

After Wright had left Richards played a steady game, keeping his end intact while Pegg made 18 before being bowled by Brooker. The seventh wicket fell at 177 when Allen put the ball into Richardson’s hands off Adamson before he had the chance to contribute to the total. Out of the next 20 runs that were scored Morris had made 19 when the declaration had to be made. Richards was 43 not out and Morris was also not out.

With the exception of Richardson and Adamson, the home batsmen failed so dismally that they could only reply with 118. Richardson who scored an invaluable 45, including 7 fours, was, with the exception of Adamson the only man to rise to the occasion, the rest of the Scarborough team being quite incapable of dealing with the bowling and conditions. Nether less Denaby deserved their victory. For Denaby Pegg took 4 wickets for 36 runs and Laughton 4 for 35.
