Mexborough 153 in 90 minutes stand at Denaby
The Denaby and Cadeby Bank Holiday Monday fixture with Mexborough fizzled out into an eventless draw. Mexborough scored 215 for 7 declared and Denaby and Cadeby played out time, scoring 146 for 3.
Denaby won the toss and put Mexborough in and with two quick successes Corey seemed justified in this move. Then came a free scoring stand of 153 by J Hemstead and D Beldon, scored in 90 minutes. Hempstead was first out when he had scored 78 (after being dropped by Corry when he was 20) shortly afterwards followed, having scored 86. The score at 174 for 5 looked a little more favourable for Denaby supporters. The ‘ tail’ showed a little resistance and Vicars declared at 217 for 7.
At no time did Denaby and Cadeby look like getting the necessary runs. They scored at the rate of one minute but this wasn’t fast enough to overall the Mexborough total. Mexborough no success in getting the wicket of Ann Oakley, when the score was only 14, but then A Ellis and R Cory put on 63 before Ellis was bowled by Hyde for 38. Peter Taylor began to chase the runs but got himself out in the process. Then he was eating came to join Corey to play out time.
The scoring rate was kept down by good bowling and fielding by the Mexborough side, and Denaby had scored 146 for three when time was up.
