Denaby & Cadeby – Tour Matches – Mansfield, Leamington, Coventry

June 1926

Narrow win at Mansfield.

Mansfield 133 Denaby 139

Clarkson played his best innings since his promotion to the Denaby senior 11, when he hit 54 off the Mansfield bowling on Saturday, the early batsmen, with the exception of Tibbles, having failed. In an exciting finish the bowling of Higgins (five for 62) and Worthington (three for 40), pulled off a victory by six runs.

A Leamington Defeat.

Leamington 231 Denaby 153

The Leamington side batted strongly on Monday, when are. S. Vollans and J White (Mansfield) joined the side, and Denaby were beaten by 78 runs. Higgins (4 for 72) and Worthington (4 for 69) came in for their share of punishment and later the Denaby batting sagged a little. R.M. Carlin’s (63) being the only notable effort.

Many Runs at Coventry

Coventry 143 for 4           Denaby 339 for 5

The batsmen fairly got going at Coventry on Tuesday when 482 runs were scored and the game was drawn. Tibbles and Greenwood gave Denaby an excellent start, Tibbles achieving the highest individual score of the tour up to that point. His 75 was, however, defeated by two runs in the same innings by Vollans (seven), and another big effort by Worthington (67) gave Denaby easily their biggest total of the week, Coventry were 196 runs behind with six wickets to fall when stumps were drawn.
