Lawley’s Good Spell

Denaby and Cadeby made a good start to the Yorkshire Council season when they were beaten by 13 runs in a low scoring game against Sheffield United at Dore on Saturday.

Denaby were continually struggling for runs against the accurate bowling of D. Webster (five wickets for 28 runs). H. Walker got the highest score for Denaby with 28 runs and R. Dodds was close behind with 21 runs, but Sheffield’s J. Croft backed up colleague Webster by taking two wickets for 20 runs.

But Denaby were not without their bowlers. R. Lawley, brought back for a second spell, astounded the field by taking four wickets for five runs, hitting the middle stump each time. The overall damage done by Lawley was four for 31.

Also bowling for Denaby, N. Pearson took two for 15 and R. Cory (who himself scored 18) took two for 28.

Final score: Sheffield United 115 all out; Denaby and Cadeby 102 all out.
