Denaby Main – Notice to Quit Houses

The state of affairs at this colliery does not appear to be very promising at present.

Last week a considerable number of the men got notice to quit their houses and today (Thursday). Between 60 and 70 men and boys have received 14 days notice to give up their work at the colliery.

Whilst many of the old hands have been turned off, a considerable number of new ones have been taken on.

During the last few months there has been almost an entire change of officials, both in the office and elsewhere. A fortnight ago the men it appears decided to play every Monday, so whether this has anything to do with the “notices” is best known to the manager.

The men sent a price list to the manager some time ago for consideration, they also want to commence with “single shifts” but the manager refuses to entertain these proposals on the part of the men, so what the result will be is at present unknown.
