Denaby Party back from Germany

A party of 21 boys and girls from Denaby Tom Hill youth centre returned on Saturday from 10 days visit to Germany, after having had a “really good time.”

The visitors were in the care of Mr R Miller, chairman of the management committee of the club and have been staying with families of German children from Seigen, Westphalia, who are to visit Denaby next year on an exchange scheme.

They had 100 mile round two of the district near Seigen, toured f the Rhine Valley, attended the Bundesgartenshau Festival at Cologne, and had a ride in an aerial lift over the valley.

On arrival they were invited to a reception at the town hall whee the Burgomeister welcomed them. Also visiting’s Seigen were parties from the Netherlands with whom the Tom Hill football team competed in a youth “international.” They also played teams from Seigen. They were expected to play a team from France but the party did not arrive at the same time.

The Club team finished third out of six teams in the competition and were presented with a plaque by the Town Clerk.

The party also visited an engineering work in Seigen and an iron ore mine in Westphalia.
