Denaby supporters saw Sheffield University fail at Denaby on Saturday in a game which belied its score of 8-0.

The standard of football provided was equal to that in the Midland League games last season.

Denaby´s side included Cocker, former Arsenal outside left, and Sheffield, who arrived with a man short had the assistance of A/c “Jerry” Barker (R.A.F.), who was on leave at centre half.

Sheffield lost by a large margin but the efforts of their goalkeeper saved them from heavier defeat.

Watt-Smith at right half was another outstanding Sheffield player. Burkinshaw for Denaby, had hard luck and none of his attempts to score were successful though his constructive work assisted ARDRON, who scored six of the eight goals. A brilliant goal was scored by COCKER from 30 yards and GIBBS was Denaby´s other scorer.
