Leaders extended
Denaby’s determination

(Barnsley Reserves 3. Denaby 1).

Denaby could not hold Barnsley’s reserves the league leaders as they held them at Tickhill square, when the teams met at Oakwell on Saturday and United were beaten 3-1.

But Denaby merited a better fate, for they started off in fine style and held their own until their forces were depleted by the retirement of Burbank’s, their clever left-winger.
After this Barnsley gradually gained the upper hand though Denabys 10 men put up a gallant fight with Hinsley playing a storming game at centre half.

Hine was Arch-schemer for the Reds but his colleagues filed to make the best of the openings he created until Chivers took over leadership of the attack from Diamond. Following this change Diamond put Barnsley on terms, W Smith having previously given Denaby the lead with a somewhat simple shot.

Cliffe and Hine (penalty) scored further goals for Barnsley and in addition to Hinsley Fred Smith and Ellie showed up well for Denaby.
