J. C. Johnson’s Day.
Denaby Hat-Trick Against Heanor

Denaby United 3  Heanor 1.

Denaby; Bromage; Taylor, Hunter; Goodison, Ogley, Windle; Wadsworth, J. C. Johnson, B. Johnson, Green, Skeels.

Heanor: Eley; Flint, Bellas; Stanley, Culley, Clayton; Ford, Flowers, Walters, Breeden, Handley.

Referee; C. Hutchinson, Rotherham.

On the whole this was a steady match and Denaby were always on top. There was just one period in which we were a little doubtful about the result and that was when, after 35 minutes, Heanor drew level with a brilliant goal. This was a result of one of the very few longshots of the game, the tactics of both teams being confined to short passing for the most part. This phase of doubt only lasted for five minutes, however, for when Denaby went ahead again Heanor seem to go to pieces. In the second half they visited the Denaby quarters but twice, and yet only one more goal was scored, this beats well for the smartness of Eley, and his backs, and they are to be commended on the hard work they did so effectively.

Scorers: Denaby: J.C. Johnson 3;  Heanor : Stanley
