Denaby Second-Half Rally

Denaby United 3 Notts Forest Reserves 1

“The better the side. The better Denaby play,” said a supporter after this match at Tickill Square on Saturday, and if Denaby is performance against Forest is anything to go by, this is certainly a true statement.

There were times when play was scrappy and occasions, especially during the first half, when Forest gave every indication that they might pile on a heavier score, but Denaby revitalised the game after the interval and for a long period it was all theirs.

Forest were a lively side and it was a fine achievement to defeat them; Collins and Brown were quite a handful on the right wing, Gunn was a bulky, troublesome centre forward, and Ward a very safe goalkeeper.

Killourhy however, was a grand marshal, and ball and able deputy, and though the Forest crossed over with a goal lead, obtained by Collins after 15 minutes, the result of a defensive slip, Denaby did not leave their supporters in doubt very long.

Inside 12 minutes of the restart they were 3-1 on top, all grand picture goals. Two minutes after the resumption Strachan drew Ward out of goal and banged the ball home; three minutes later Wright back-heeled to Asquith, who made no mistake, and to round off the scoring Killourhy scored his 22nd goal of the season seven minutes later.
