Denaby Won Reward for 90 Minutes of Endeavour

Denaby United 3 Peterborough 2

For many weeks United have deserved the reward they gained on Saturday and for the critics who have taken their bad luck with a pinch of salt it was a pleasant reminder that such things do happen. Crossing over with a 2-1 lead, Peterborough were pegged back in the first minute of the second half and Carr got the winner 14 minutes from the end.

Full-Blooded Duel.

As a spectacle it deserved a better “gate.” Denaby threw themselves with abandon into a full-blooded duel of attack and counter-attack in which heavy going gave the minimum of football. Both Wright and Killourhy were missing from the side, and in that respect Denaby’s achievement was doubly enhanced. The defence was up to concert pitch, Madin notably, constantly clipping the wings of a Peterborough forward line which was not easily subdued. Barke, at centre-half, did very well to keep so careful an eye on a craftsman such as Bramham, the Peterborough leader, while Cowley, in the Denaby goal, rarely faulted in sizing up a situation.

Apart from Bramham, who was always a danger, Brooksbanks and  Burton (familiar figure at Tickhill Square) gave most trouble in the Peterborough line, notably the thrustful Brooksbanks. The dash of Locker and Schofield, on the Denaby left wing, was a splendid asset in that it often flurried the Peterboro’ backs, who had quite enough on watching the continual rapier stabs of a forward line in which Osborne was always prominent.

First blood came in the 20th minute when the ever-present LOCKER nodded home a centre from the right. Eight minute:3 from half-time BR00KSBANKS scored twice in as many minutes, but within a minute of the resumption LOCKER headed in an equaliser and in the 76th minute CARR, making good going in his stiff task at centre-forward, got the winner.
