Mansfield T. Res. 3, Denaby U. 0
Although they were at limes heavilv overplayed, Denaby United fought pluckily and had their wing men, Colton and Senior, been steadier in front of goal, the margin might have been narrow. Green, the United centrehalf back played great blotting out Baldry. the Grimsby Town forward on trial with the Town, and the home sides best work came through the runs of Sims, outside left, against whom Happs had difficull time.
Fielding with a solo effort, open the scoring after nine minutes, but Fleetwood and Colton were often in the picture and Colton skimmed the bar after he had left Vaus standing. Black also cleared brilliantly when Senior put Massarella through.
Sams scored two minutes before the interval when Happs miskicked at a centre from Fielding. Winn, who had not appeared too safe in the visitors goal, presented Town with their third goal. He misjudged the bounce of a long punt from Smith (left back for Town) and it passed over his head into the net ten minutes after the interval. Smith, Wainwright and Fielding were Manfield’s best.
