Missed Penalty Saves Manvers

Manvers Main 2, Denaby United 2

A missed penalty early in the first half lost Denaby a point on Saturday. They were awarded the penalty when a Manvers defender handled the ball when it seemed certain that Denaby would score, but Cocker a former Arsenal player, shot wide with the kick.

A fair reflex on the game would have been a win for Denaby, but they had only themselves to blame, for they missed some easy chances. Manvers, too, had plenty of chances to score, but their finishing was poor. In spite of these lost opportunities a large crowd saw a keen game with neither side having he advantage.

From the way Manvers started it looked as if Denaby would be trounced, but after settling down the visitors easily held their own and the understanding between the forward line was brilliant. They swept the ball down the field many times only to be thwarted by the excellent goalkeeping of White. Gibbs (outside-left) was especially outstanding, and the visitors defence was sound. The home attack, with the exception of Newey (outside-left) who had a poor game, did well individually, but on the whole their passes seldom found their mark. The full backs gave a good account of themselves.

Manvers began with a rush and after Denaby had failed to score from a penalty, took the lead through BROWN, whose shot from 15 yards out gave the Denaby goalkeeper no chance. Ardron had a chance to put Denaby on level terms but his shot into an empty goal was cleared by a Manvers defender. ARDRON made up for this mistake five minutes later by scoring a good goal.

In the second half ARDRON, from a pass from Cocker, put Denaby ahead, RAYNOR equalising 15 minutes from time. Both teams went all out to score the winning goal but missed several easy chances.
