Wath and Denaby opened the season at Wath on Saturday and scored one goal each. Denaby got the first, early in the game, Neville Shaw putting the ball across after a throw in for Parkinson to take Whitaker by surprise with a neat hook. Five minutes later, however, a well-placed corner kick by Shivers enabled Shaw to score for Wath. The halves of both teams played strongly in the keen tussle for the lead which followed and Leslie Bedford was an outstanding player. F. Westwood missed one great chance for Wath and Pring shot wildly for Denaby when well-placed
