Congratulations to Mr O. T. Storrs, of Buckingham Road, for the past 20 months under manager of Cadeby Colliery, upon his promotion to a colliery manager, at the early age of 29. He must be one of the youngest colliery managers in the country.

Mr Storrs, a native of Kent, who has been appointed to take charge of the Holmewood colliery, Chesterfield, took up his new duties on Tuesday.

Mr Storrs entered mining in 1923 by joining the staff of Messrs. Durnford and Tomlinson, mining engineers, of Doncaster, and two years later he transferred to Harworth Main colliery near Doncaster, where he remained until March, 1934, when he was appointed machine over men at Denaby and Cadeby collieries. This position he held until his promotion to the under manager ship of Cadeby colliery.

Mr Storrs, who has had practical experience of all classes of work underground, took the mining course at Nottingham University while still at Harworth, and obtained his manager’s certificate in 1931. He has not played a large part in the social life of the district during the comparatively short stay here, but at Bawtry he was chairman of the Bawtry branch of the Junior Imperial league. Mrs Storrs is chairman of the Denaby and Conisborough branch of the same organisation.

Reference to his impending departure was made by Mr Storrs when presiding at the presentation to Mr R. J. Rosser at the official’s club, Denaby, on Friday, Mr Storrs remarking that he was very sorry that he had to leave all the officials and workmen at the pit when he was just beginning to get to know them. He felt he owed them an apology for running away so soon.
