Fatal Accident at Denaby Main

On Wednesday morning a shocking accident resulted in the death of a youth named John Hy. Hall, within two hours of the occurance, happened at the Denaby Main colliery. The deceased was engaged as a screen and a mottie youth on the pit top, and whilst braking some empty corves down and incline, somehow or other got crushed between them and an iron girder.

The youth, who was but 13 years of age, and the son of Mr Wm. C. Hall, miner, of 27, Cliff View, Denaby main, had an excellent character at the colliery, and was spoken of as being above the average brightness, civility, and willingness. He was one of the scholars at the church Sunday school, and a member of the choir. He had been connected with the church over five years. The interment will take place at Mexborough Cemetery on Sunday, and the remains be followed by his late fellow scholars and associates, who will sing at the graveside.

Much sympathy is expressed towards the parents in their sad bereavement, and especially the mother, who has been in a delicate state of health for some time past. An inquest will take place tomorrow (Saturday) morning at the hospital.

The deceased was a half member of the miners permanent relief society, and the parents will benefit to the extent of £11 10s from this fund
