Harry Westby – Leading Methodist

A leading member of Conisbrough Methodist Church, Mr Harry Westby, 27, March Street, Conisbrough, died in Doncaster Royal Infirmary on Tuesday, aged 68.

Mr Westby was a trustee of the church, and a society steward for over 30 years. He was also secretary of the missionary Society and a choir member

A retired colliery bricklayer at Denaby who had lived in Conisbrough all his life, Mr Westby was a keen supporter of Conisbrough Cricket Club and in his younger days played for Old Conisbrough Methodians and umpired in local matches.

During the First World War, Mr Westby served in France with the Royal Engineers, and he was An Air Raid Warden in Conisbrough in the last war.

He leaves a widow, two children and four grandchildren.
