Ill Luck Dogs Denaby

Dogged by ill luck this season, the fortunes of Yorkshire Council side Denaby and Cadeby took a further plunge on Saturday with a possible serious injury to opening bat Malcolm Walker.

Fellow opener Arthur Ellis also took a knock in Saturday’s match against Elsecar, aggravating an existing finger injury.

It is only a matter of weeks since vice-captain Dick Cory, one of the mainstays of the team, was out of action with a broken finger.

Sprained

Arthur Ellis told me on Monday, “Luckily my finger is only sprained. It is very painful but is not broken and should not keep me out of the team”.

Malcolm Waler’s injury may be more serious – only an X-ray will tell, and there was no unit available when Malcolm attended Mexborough Montagu Hospital on Saturday. Luckily he was to take a fortnight’s holiday and miss the next two matches in any case, but a fractured finger could keep him out of action for at least four weeks.

A blow like this could be serious for Denaby and Cadeby, who have not started the season with their usual form, and must now be looking for the silver lining.
