An Old Offender.


Joseph Thompson, alias “Salts” again.

Joseph Thompson, Conisbrough, better known by the name of “Salty” Thompson was again brought before the bench chargedwith being drunk and disorderly at Conisbrough, the 19th inst.

Sgt Morley deposed that on Saturday night, the 19th he was called to the defendant in High Street, Conisbrough, and when hundred yards from him, heard him in the Street drunk, swearing, and using the most filthy language.

He was saying.” We will make old Montague sit up, we will kill all his bloody rabbits.” Swore what he would do if they attempted to take him.

Call the police, the West Riding bloody white livered b – – – – rs. From 9.15 to 11 o’clock his language was most disgraceful.

PC Garnet deposed to have been present, and seeing the defendant drunk and a large crowd around him spoke to him, and ordered him in. He went into his doorway. He said he should take rabbits as he liked of old Copley´s land for such b – – – – rs as them. (Police).

Threatened to put a knife through witness, and called them (Police) white livered b – – – – rs.

Defendant denied the charge, saying it was abominable to say that use such words. He had been better brought up and “edicated” than to use such language.

The bench here reminded defendant that he had been convicted 12 times already, and that he must now pay of 40s and 11s 6d costs.
