Denaby Sunday School

The annual sermons in connection with this school were preached to large congregations on Sunday last by Mr Jesse Newton of Wakefield. Appropriate hyms were sung by the children, under the leadership of Mr Beardsley. The recitations given were of an excellent character.

On Monday a public tea took place which was well attended. A public meeting was subsequently held, the chair being ably occupied by J.Warburton, Esq. the newly appointed manager of the colliery, who in an excellent speech expressed the high esteem in which he held sabbath school institutions.

Addresses were delivered on the duties of Sunday school teachers, methods of teaching, etc. by the Revs. T.Campey, J.Wilson and Messrs. W.P.Holmes E.Y.Aston, T.Shaw and W.Hewitt Esq.

The total proceeds amounted to about £18. The usual vote of thanks concluded the meeting.
