Lucky Pensioner

Mrs Sarah Rose, an 86-year-old pensioner of Toll Bar House, Hill Top, Conisbrough, decided after the over 60’s social on Thursday to stay the night with her daughter in Conisbrough, instead of going home to Hill Top.

While she was away the chimney stack at her home was blown off in the gale and fell onto the bed where she would normally have been sleeping, piling dozens of bricks on her bed.

A hole 5’ x 3 was left in the ceiling.

A large tree was blown down on top of the new bungalow opposite the Castle Inn, Conisbrough, one of the roof was so badly smashed that much of the woodwork underneath the tiles had been smashed to matchwood and to repair the bungalow it will most likely be necessary to replace the roof.

Contractors Greathead Bros., have had their busiest period for years. “Everyone seems to be ringing us up at once” said Mr G. E. Greathead, one of the partners. “And there is now a shortage of tiles, and we are having to wait for them”, he added.
