Conisbrough – Mexborough  Ride For Test
‘Keen Young Cyclist

Mexborough children’s keenness road safety, and particularly cycling, was noted again on Saturday, when nearly 80 schoolchildren turned up for the Cycling proficiency Test in Mexborough Grammar School playground.

So keen was one 10-years-old boy that he cycled all tire way from Conisbrough to take the test, because there are no such tests at Conisbrough. He was Ian Cross of Morley Place School, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Cross. Ian particularly wanted the certificate, as it will gain him a badge for his Wolf Cub uniform. He is a member of the 3rd Don and Dearne Denaby Cubs.

Police Road Safety Officer, P.c. S. Wolstenholme, Mr. G. Stables. secretary of Mexborough Road Safety Committee, with the help of police and other members of the committee, tested the children, using miniature signs roads and traffic lights.

The test was in five sections, which included maintenance, stopping and starting, obstacles test, .turning into major road, and signaling.

To pass the test, the children had to get 75 out of a possible 100 marks.
