More Damage from Conisborough.

August 1907

Before Mr J. C. Coleman (presiding), and Mr J. Dymond.

More Damage from Conisborough.

Still another of the damage cases, which are doing so much to make Conisborough a fixture on the charge sheet, was heard.

Joshua Appleyard prosecuted in a case in which Thomas Turner, a miner, of Conisborough, was charged with damage to growing clover.

Defendant did not appear, and PC Thompson said he was on duty in Garden Lane, Conisborough, when he saw defendant walk across 100 yards of growing clover.

He stated when taxed with the offence by witness, that he fought there was a public footpath.

Defendant had to pay 5/– and 9/– costs, and the damage 1/–.

A case of a similar nature was that in which Joseph Jackson, WM. Sherratt, and George Holt, pony driver, of Mexborough, were charged at the instance of Mr Stephen Guest with having caused damage to hay.

PC Watson said that at 8:00 PM on 16 July, he was on duty in clay fields, Mexborough, when he saw the defendants tossing the new mown hay about in the field of Mr Guest, and throwing it into the lane.

The amount which was wasted was about three forks full.

Defendants were ordered to pay 2/6 and costs, and the damage 1/– each.
