New Supermarket open at Conisbrough

A giant grocery, are now firmly established is spreading its wings into South Yorkshire.

This expansion began on Thursday at Conisbrough with the opening of Gowers and Burgons, new supermarket in Church Street.

The firm’s offices and warehouse are at Woodburn Road, been established for nearly 100 years and have over 60 branches in and around Sheffield this new branch at Conisbrough is hoped to be the forerunner of more branch shops in the district.

Mr F Baxter, general manager of Gowers and Burgons, is convinced of the possibilities in South Yorkshire.

He said, “Although our firm has been established for nearly 100 years he told been at the most progressive in the last five years. We moved our office and warehouse from Staveley Road to Woodburn Road, Sheffield, expansion in mind. We have now doubled the size at our warehouse space.

Courts the idea now is expand into the districts and our shop at Conisbrough is the start.”

Baby Section

at this new supermarket, Gowers and Bergen introduced an interesting feature – the inclusion of a baby section. Baby this section also sells baby clothes, nappies etc.

“Although this new branch is a supermarket,” said Mr Baxter” we still maintain the family grocery type of image. Too many supermarkets these days have a ‘cold’ atmosphere. We have always maintained our family grocery image. In fact it is a thing we are noted for we believe it is essential, particularly in the provision side of the business.”

This new builder been under construction since last October’s sandal the site of the old Globe Cinema. The manager Mr B Jarrell, who although living in Doncaster, as always worked in Sheffield. The staff are all local people.

You cannot get bread any fresher than they sell, for Gowers and Bergen have their own bakery at Tickhill bread and confectionery is always fresh from the oven.

the shop opens until 8 PM each Friday evening so that working housewives have a chance to get their weekend shopping done.

“We have most things for the outside,” said Mr Baxter.

“We have a very capable manager in Mr Jarrell and the first-class staff will stop this will mean that the customer will get quality service will stop

“people actually what they are buying and become accustomed to self-service, with our staff are there to help and advise where needed. We have concentrated on bargain public and there are plenty of attractive offers. We sell our own label goods are different blends of tea, to suit all tastes and these and other blends are available to the public

“As for expansion, the facts speak for themselves. In the past two years we have acquired or add built 18 new branches. And this is just the start of our expansion will stop
