Obstructing a Police Officer at Conisborough.
Martha B. Severns, a married woman, of Mexborough, pleaded not guilty and charged with obstructing constable while in the execution of his duty
P. C. Wales gave evidence. He stated at 8:45 p.m., on 11 September, he was on duty in Station Road, Conisbrough, when he was called to the Conisborough station, where a disturbance was taking place.
He saw the defendant’s husband with a crowd of people around him. He (defendant’s husband) had hold of Mr Richards (stationmaster) by the throat, and saw the defendant’s husband insult him, and, when trying to arrest him, defendant tried to drag the officer away from her husband, who eventually got away. He (witness) re-captured her husband, and asked defendant to go away, but she refused, saying: “You shan’t lock him up.”
With assistance, he handcuffed him, and took him to Conisborough police station.
Mr. Richards (stationmaster). Conisborough station, gave corroborative evidence.
A fine of £1, including costs was imposed.
