Opening of a New Library and Institute at Denaby Main

on Monday evening Dr Swithinbank, thrive Hall, formerly opened the new library and Institute which has recently been formed in the village.

Some years ago Mr Fullerton, are thriving Hall, Canada presented to the villagers a costly library and other inducements which were soon lost sight of. In response to a general wish on the part of the men working at the colony, and other persons in the village, as were the kind offices of Dr Swithinbank, Mr Fullerton’s agent, the latter gentleman as place is fine collection at the disposal of a committee which was subsequently appointed for the carrying out the idea of once more establishing and Institute for the village.

The members of the committee comprise the Rev. Thomas Horsfall (curate), Mr WH Chambers (manager of the colliery), Mr Rose and Mr Roper (hon secretary).

In addition to the gathering together of the library, the committee of octane the use of two cottages in the village in which to locate the Institute. The library is situated in one cottage together with reading rooms, and in the other refreshments are to be octane, and drafts, chess, and bagatelle can be indulged in.
