Orchard Robbery

“The Bench take a very serious view of the case. Not only are you morally responsible for the theft, but you have led the boys astray. You will be fined £1 and the case against the boys dismissed,” said the Chairman of the Doncaster West Riding Bench (Col W St Andrew Ward-Aldam) on Saturday, when a Sheffield man was accused of aiding and abetting two boys (aged 12) to steal 7 lbs of apples values 2s 6d from an orchard at Conisborough belonging to Mr Francis Ogley, J.P., on August 27.

It was stated that one of the boys accused his father of sending them in, and a witness said he heard the father whistling to them stop the father pleaded that he was mending a bicycle belonging to one of the boys and they disappeared up the road.
