Lance Corporal Downing of Station Road, Conisbrough, formerly an undertaker was wounded in the leg on August 3 in France.

He had previously taken two German prisoners, who afterwards helped carry him to the dressing station.

Lance Corporal Downing is now in hospital in Kent.
