Conisboro’´ Spitfire Fund Preparations

Windfall from Wembley

Arrangements have now been made for the German plane to be exhibited in the Station Hotel Field, Conisborough, from December 19 th to December 28 th in aid of the Conisborough and Denaby Spitfire Fund.

The machine will be guarded by members of the local Home Guard, and members of the local A.F.S. stationed in the Council Office yard have volunteered to act as gate-men while the machine is on show. The machine will be on view every day from the 19 th to the 28 th (inclusive), between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.; Adults will be charged 6d. and children 3d.

Subscriptions continue to flow in to the Fund, and an interesting contributor this week is Mr. B. Wilson of Wembley, a regular reader, who has the “South Yorkshire Times” mailed to him and who sends £5 and remarks that in the district where he resides they know only too well how much is owed “to the excellent work of the Spitfires” and their pilots.

Mr. Wilson is an old Conisborough resident and will be remembered by many as a traveller for Messrs. Kilners, glass manufacturers.

He also took an active part in the musical circles in the district.

He left Conisborough over 20 years ago, though he still retains an interest in local affairs.
