Home Coal Team Commended at Conisbrough

Five employees of the Denaby Cadeby Home Coal Carting committee who have completed 30 years of accident free driving each, and delivered over 1 million tons of coal between them, were presented with R.S.P.A. awards at Monday’s meeting of Conisbrough Urban Council.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor G Cheshire J.P. made the presentation of their 25th yearly bar to add to their five-year medal.

The drivers, Messrs F Davies, S Houghton, N Shaw, T Wakefield and G West all started with the Carting Committee as boys, when coal was delivered by horse and cart. All live in Ferry Villas, Low Road, Conisbrough, houses specially built for the men.

Tribute was paid to the men by nearly every Councillor present.

Ald B Roberts J.P. said that they were “a real example to other road users” and that there 30 years of accident free driving was a “wonderful achievement.”

Councillor. R.H. Shepard said that if every driver were as good as these men we would have a safer country.
