Conisbrough Party off for Fishing Holiday in Ireland.

In only the second year since its foundation, the Conisbrough Talisman Angling Club is this year taking its members for a weeks fishing holiday in Ireland.

The 24 members of the club plus 4 friends, will set off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, travelling by coach to Manchester airport, from where they will make the hour long flight to Dublin.

They will be met there by Tony Fayne, well-known for his knowledge of fishing and also as a caterer for Angling parties in the Longford district of Ireland, where the Conisbrough party will be making their headquarters.

The cost of the trip, including fees for Mr Fayne´s boarding house the small village of Clondra will be £18 15s.

Mr Len Mickleborough, of Chester Grove, Conisbrough, Angling club secretary and organiser of the excursion, explained that the party will have at their disposal three dormobiles owned by Mr Fayne. They plan to finish barely stretches of water, probably tributaries of the River Shannon.

Attractive Sport.

There was, he said, plenty of attractive fishing in Ireland. “According to books and people we have spoken to, there are bigger fish over there,” he said.

In addition, the waters of Ireland were not fished so heavily as in this country.

They expect to catch all kinds of fish, including bream, roach, perch, eel, and pike.

Only two of the party have been to Ireland before. They are Charlie and Les Cooke and said Mr Mikleborough, “they reckon it was pretty good.”

The club will make the return journey on September 14, after what they hope will be an outstanding week of fishing.

Shortly after their return they hope to present the prizes for a competition they will hold during their week´s stay. Manager of the Talisman Mr Basil Robinson has given one prize and a further five pounds for a cup has been given by local bookmaker Mr Harold Haigh

A preliminary meeting will be held on Sunday, September 1 to discuss final details of the trip.
