Three Taken to Hospital after Denaby Skid

Three people were taken to Mexborough Montagu Hospital early on Tuesday morning after the trolley bus in which they were travelling became involved in an accident near Conisbrough North Cliff Club, Denaby.

Three other vehicles – two buses and a milk lorry – were also involved.

The road was blocked for over half an hour before Denaby police and the drivers managed to sort out the mixup on the snow-covered road.

All the injured were travelling in the trolley bus which belonged to the Mexborough and Swinton Traction Company. They were Joyce Muscroft (22) conductress of Springfield Road, Kilnhurst, John Westwood (39), a passenger of Cross Gate Mexborough and another passenger Douglas Headen of Rockingham Road Swinton. Headen was detained but the others were allowed to leave after treatment.

It is understood that the trolley bus, driven by Frank Bailey of Rotherham, skidded in the snow.

Two empty buses travelling to Conisbrough to pick up mill girls and a Doncaster Cooperative milk delivery lorry were also involved in the accident. The trolley bus was damaged at the rear.

A few minutes before the collision, an empty Yorkshire Traction bars travelling to pick up workmen, skidded into a trolley bus standard near the same spot.
