Upset Candle Causes Death

Getting out of bed a 72-year-old woman. Fanny Batty, Northcllffe Road, Conisborough, knocked a candle over and set her nightdress alight.

Rushing upstairs, William Batty, an old-age pensioner, whipped a rug from the bed and wrapped it round his wife, but his effort was in vain.

At the inquest on Saturday verdict of Accidental death was returned.
