Wife Maintenance

James Cane, collier, New Conisbrough was summoned for arrears of maintenance due to his wife under an order of the Court.

Defendant did not appear, and Catherine Cane, his wife, said four weeks ago she obtained an order against him for eight shillings per week. He was in regular work, and was employed at Denny Main Colliery.

Defendant had never paid anything under the order, and consequently there was 32 shillings owing.

Defendant was committed to prison for one month with hard labour
