In January 1965 a new Northcliffe Garage has new owners
Northcliffe students enjoyed a Dancing club social and the basketball team was enjoying success
There were Christmas events at the Fullerton Hospital,
Ellershaw Estate, the Police and Civic Annual Dances
There was a Christmas Eve football match between
Denaby Institute and the Comrades Club
A man was rescued after being trapped in Trench whilst a Church Officer had to clear snow for a Funeral
There was a BEM and a MBE for Denaby & Conisbrough people and an article about the Denaby Cemetery Gates
We hear about United’s loyal fan and the club opposes a £80 maximum wage (for the team!) while they still await their first win

February

50 years ago in February the South Yorkshire Times was telling us of the re development of the Conisbrough & Denaby Shopping Centres and prominent local businesses were giving their thoughts
There were dances and dinners for the Conisbrough CC, the Denaby Co op Staff and the Lifeboat Institute
Another miners dies at Denaby Main and a fire wrecks the home of a Denaby Family
There was a plea for more accommodation at Northcliffe while a rents rise was in sight
the Tom Hill youth club are successful with ‘Sleeping Beauty’
and United record their first win of the season !
whilst old supporters reminisce about the best ever team

50 Years ago this month
Tommy Joyce was making the Boxing headlines
while Denaby United’s financial state was desperate as they won only their second game of the season and a supporter tells us their ‘best ever’ team
Ivanhoe lose their star Barry Breedon to Rockingham
The Tom Hill leader criticises under age drinkers and gets an angry reaction from parents
We see the entertainment in Conisbrough and Denaby with the Walker Brothers in Concert
There’s more of over 100 weddings we will show pictures of this year
and how many will celebrate their golden weddings this year ?

April

In April 1965 the villages were preparing for a celebrity football match In which ‘Fancy’ Smith from Z Cars was to captain the side
Tommy Joyce claimed another victory, this time on TV  and he is all set for the ABA Finals
There’s speculation over a Denaby coat of arms
and Denaby Co op wares and ‘divi’ are shown
We have pictures of the School Football team finalists from Ivanhoe and Balby Street
and there’s an old photo from 1914 of 60 officials from Denaby Main

June

In June 1965 we have pictures of the Conisbrough Whit Walk and the Tom Hill Youth Club Gala Day ( anyone remember it?)
The Boy Scouts were having their Jubilee Year,
We can see the local businesses; Stringer Nurseries and Brammer Tyre services
and there’s more Weddings in Conisbrough and Denaby
A Denaby Boxer, Pat O’Rourke was invited on a Trip to America and Denaby & Cadeby continue their poor start to the season
But the big local story is the failure of Denaby United
To be re elected to the Midland League
After 2 poor seasons
And despite being founder members of the League over 60 years before

In July 1965 the district was changing
as 1,800 houses were to be demolished in Denaby and there’s plans for the Centre of Conisbrough too.
A new pub, the Bowman is opened in Conisbrough and a new one, The Tavern, is planned for Denaby
The Tom Hill Youth Club is making more friends as members journey to Scotland to learn more skills.
A 16 year old girl wins a car and
there’s a £1,000 Bingo win at Denaby
There’s Swimming Galas and School Sports
and retirements, presentations and a Golden Wedding.
Denaby United find a new League in the Yorkshire League
and Denaby & Cadeby avoid relegation in the South Riding league

Tom Hill Youth Club’s Activities cover a fashion show and a Denaby Hamburg Exchange
The Vicar of Denaby leaves for Manchester
and we hear of a former resident who became the Vicar of Royden
and of the Open Air Baths at Denaby
Old Road is declared an Accident Spot and a Conisbrough girl becomes a Queen’s guide
It was the hey day of Weddings and there’s photos of 18 this month
and United are hoping to get into Yorkshire League 1 but hopes are halted when Doncaster United visit them

and there’s a major Fire at Braim and Cooper’s
The ‘Mikado’ by Northcliffe High School delights Audiences and Tom Hill Youth Centre plan to produce ‘The Beggar Prince’
Conisbrough Council agree to support a New Industry Plan by providing Housing Accomodation for Key Workers
Conisbrough’s new Community Centre is opened and Conisbrough School Councillors are pronounced Local Councillors of the Future
Charlie Williams is prominent as United go on a goal scoring spree!

As 1965 comes to a close we hear of Denaby Main’s Charlie Taylor who is one of the North’s top anglers
Attendances at Denaby Main have dropped below 30% to improve the Pit’s chances of Survival
A Denaby woman has a big win at Bingo and there’s carols and gifts for the old people of Conisbrough
A new silver plated cross adorns the Methodist Church and a new TV for the Fullerton Hospital
The Rowena House Residential Home is opened and Spare Chairs are needed at the St Andrew’s Mission
There are parking plans for 300 cars in Conisbrough town Centre and the woman scorer at the Cricket Club receives an award
United clock up 15 goals against Brodsworth and Harry Hough returns as manager
