Jim Beachill – 2013 Iceland – 07 – Walking in the National Park

Walking in the National Park

The first hike of the day was through the mysterious canyon Asbyrgi, said to be a hoof print of Sleipnir, the eight legged horse of Odin.
Then we walked along the mighty Jokulsa river up to the top of the cliffs.
The final part of the day we went first upstream to Dettifoss, Europe’s most power full waterfall, awesome in its strength and power. 150 ft high by 330 ft wide
Then finally to Godafoss, “waterfall of the Gods” where in the year 1000 a chieftain threw his pagan statues  in the waterfall to prove his loyalty to the new Christian God
